Charges against an Arizona woman arrested in Gainesville nearly two years ago in connection with the disappearance and death of her son have been dismissed.
Glory 97.5 confirmed Saturday that the district attorney for Buckeye, Arizona, dismissed the charges earlier this year because, according to a statement released by her office, there was not enough evidence to continue the case. But the door was left open to possibly filing new charges against Crystal Wilson at some future date if new evidence against her is uncovered.
“The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has filed a motion to dismiss without prejudice the case against Crystal Wilson,” the agency said in a written statement. “Wilson was facing one count of unlawful transport of a dead body. At this time, there was insufficient evidence to move forward with the trial against the defendant. If new evidence is discovered and brought by law enforcement in the future, the office is open to reexamining the case.”
Wilson was arrested in December 2022 at a Gainesville apartment complex (see picture) where she had been living for several years. She was held in the Hall County Jail until March 2023 when she was extradited to Arizona.
Arizona authorities had been looking for her since 2016 in connection with the disappearance of her 10-year-old adoptive son from the home the two shared in Buckeye, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. Two years later, human remains, later identified as the boy’s, were found alongside a road by a Buckeye city employee.
Though she was not charged in connection with his death, Wilson was indicted on charges of abandoning or concealing a body.
The break in the case came in 2020 after, according to Buckeye Police, a new detective was assigned to the case and uncovered unspecified evidence linking Wilson to the boy’s disappearance. It was soon after that that she was indicted and police traced her to Gainesville.
