Brunswick High 2026 post-season ban rescinded

The Georgia High School Association Board of Trustees has voted to lift the 2026 post-season ban it imposed on Brunswick High School following that on-field fight between Brunswick and Gainesville High football players last month.

In addition, 42 of the 44 players originally suspended will have their suspensions lifted and Brunswick High School will still have to pay a fine.

“After the altercation between Brunswick High School and Gainesville High School during the GHSA playoffs, the GHSA issued sanctions against Brunswick High School. It was never the intention of the Glynn County School System, nor Brunswick High School, to appeal those sanctions,” Glynn County Schools Assistant Supt. Steve Waters said Monday. “Over the course of the last 10 days, it came to my attention that there was a previous incident like the incident between Gainesville and Brunswick that took place this year in another football game. The sanctions issued to those teams were different from the sanctions placed against Gainesville and Brunswick.

“Last week, I met with Dr. Tim Scott, Executive Director of the Georgia High School Association, along with others, to discuss the process of revising the sanctions placed against Brunswick High School. While I fully accept our responsibility in the incident, I do feel that sanctions must be consistent across all schools.”
