Members of the Brenau community gathered recently to honor the late President Anne Skleder. The occasion was the unveiling of the newly named Skleder Hall and her portrait, which was painted by local artist Travis Massey.
“If there’s one thing we will never forget about President Skleder, it’s that she truly loved Brenau’s students,” a posting on Brenau’s Facebook page reads. “As you go about your weekend, we encourage you to think about her favorite line of the Brenau Ideal, which she embodied every single day — To love deeply, fear nothing and hate never.”
Earlier this year, Brenau’s board of trustees voted to change the name of the scholarship created by Skleder in 2019 to the Anne A. Skleder First Generation Endowed Scholarship Fund, a perpetual fund to receive gifts in her memory. At the same time, the board agreed to name one of the school’s residence halls in her memory.
Skelder died October 19, 2023, due to myelofibrosis. She was Brenau’s tenth – and first woman – president.
