If you’ve seen the movie “Cool Hand Luke,” you surely remember the opening scene in which a drunken Paul Newman is cutting the tops off parking meters to get the money out of them. Well, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reports that something similar occurred here a few days ago.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“…deputies arrested two men early Sunday morning…for destroying a street sign in North Hall County.
(A little after midnight) deputies responded to H. White Road and Perry Parks Road and met with witnesses. According to the initial investigation, the suspects pulled a 35 m-p-h speed limit sign out of the ground with a tow strap and a…pickup truck. They broke the sign’s metal post and destroyed the sign.
Both suspects returned to the scene while deputies were investigating. Joshua Melvin Turner, 23, of Murrayville, approached on foot. Deputies arrested Turner, the registered owner of the suspect truck, on charges of interference with government property, a felony, and pedestrian under the influence, a misdemeanor.
As deputies arrested Turner, a different vehicle pulled up with the second suspect, Logan Daniel Harrelson, 23, of Cartersville, as a passenger. Deputies arrested Harrelson for interference with government property…
Deputies took both men to the Hall County Jail, where they were booked on their charges. Turner was released from jail on $1,430 bond Sunday afternoon. Harrelson was also released Sunday afternoon after posting $1,300 bond.”
At least, like Newman in the movie, they didn’t get sent to a backwoods prison camp, run by a sadistic warden and his henchmen.
