A new bill, whose sponsors include a Cumming state senator and one from Dahlonega, would create a state department patterned after President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk.
Greg Dolezel (R-Cumming) and Steve Gooch (R-Dahlonega) are among 14 sponsors of Senate Bill 28, or the Red Tape Rollback Act, would have state agencies review their budgets every four years and cut back on spending and regulations.
Gooch (pictured) says anytime you can reduce the size of government and eliminate waste it’s a good thing for taxpayers and consumers. He tells the AJC he wants to replicate the federal DOGE. Since its work began not long after Trump took office Jan. 20, the agency has drawn sharp criticism from some Democratic lawmakers and consumer advocates.
