First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Hall County increased by more than 50 percent in November when compared to October and nearly 40 percent compared to November 2024.
Data recently released by the state Department of Labor (GDOL) show a month-to-month increase of 57.4 percent and a year-to-year increase of 39.3 percent.
Statewide, applications were up 14.1 percent over October, and a 13.5 percent compared to November 2024.

SRN NEWS/REUTERS says applications were up nationwide and that there are a couple of reasons why: a relatively low number of layoffs, though demand for labor remained sluggish, with businesses squeezing more output from their existing workforce.
