August cooler than normal

While July was several degrees warmer than usual across north and middle Georgia because of that prolonged heat wave, last month was just the opposite, according to the National Weather Service’s (NWS) August Climate Summary.

Temperatures were three degrees below normal, and rainfall was within an inch of normal.

Locally, according to data collected at the Gainesville airport, temperatures were 2.3 degrees below average and rainfall was almost two inches below normal.

The temperature peaked at 93 degrees on the 17th. The wettest day of the month was the 4th when .75 inches of rain fell.
