An Atlanta man arrested by Oakwood Police this week in connection with a bank fraud scheme is denying that he impersonated a federal agent, while pledging to “fully” cooperate with the investigation with the goal of clearing his name.
Frederick Lee Thornton wrote in an email received by 97.5 Glory FM Saturday morning “I understand the seriousness of the charges and the public concern surrounding the case, and I wish to clarify a few points that I believe are being misrepresented or misunderstood.
“First and foremost, I want to emphasize that I did not impersonate a federal officer,” he continued. “The notion that I would use my actual name—Frederick Lee Thornton—while allegedly posing as a federal agent is not only illogical but also inconsistent with the behavior of someone attempting to deceive. If deception were my intent, I would not have used my real identity, vehicle, or personal contact information.
“I fully intend to cooperate with the investigation and provide all necessary documentation and testimony to clear my name. I believe that once all facts are reviewed thoroughly, it will become evident that there has been a significant misunderstanding in this matter.
“I appreciate your role in keeping the public informed, and I hope you will consider publishing this statement to ensure that all sides of the story are represented.”
