The state patrol says three of the fatal accidents occurred in Union, Stephens, and Jackson counties and took the lives of Jon McGill, 53, Blairsville; Lacitrus Gholston, 33, Toccoa; and a third person whose name was not immediately available. In addition, an 87-year-old man, whose name was also not released Monday, died when an ATV overturned in Lumpkin County, according to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.
The state patrol is reporting a deadly holiday weekend on roads across the state.
Troopers investigated 20 fatalities during the Labor Day period through early Monday evening. This includes at least three in northeast Georgia: in the Blue Ridge, Cumming, Toccoa and Athens areas. Georgia News Network reports officers across the state concentrated all weekend on finding impaired and distracted drivers.
A final report is expected from the state patrol later today including details on those northeast Georgia accidents.
