U P D A T E D 4:30 p.m.: Details released re: holiday weekend traffic fatalities in NE Ga.

The state patrol says three of the fatal accidents occurred in Union, Stephens, and Jackson counties and took the lives of Jon McGill, 53, Blairsville; Lacitrus Gholston, 33, Toccoa; and a third person whose name was not immediately available. In addition, an 87-year-old man, whose name was also not released Monday, died when an ATV overturned in Lumpkin County, according to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

The state patrol is reporting a deadly holiday weekend on roads across the state.

Troopers investigated 20 fatalities during the Labor Day period through early Monday evening. This includes at least three in northeast Georgia: in the Blue Ridge, Cumming, Toccoa and Athens areas. Georgia News Network reports officers across the state concentrated all weekend on finding impaired and distracted drivers.  

A final report is expected from the state patrol later today including details on those northeast Georgia accidents.
