Arrest made in Athens St. murder of man, wounding of woman

Gainesville Police have arrested Kendrick Deshaun Goss, 44, of Gainesville, in connection to deadly early morning shooting Monday on Athens Street at Ridge Road.

Goss allegedly shot Kendrick McClendin to death at the Texaco at the intersection following an altercation at a party, police said. “During the rapid gunfire, a female who was with McClendin was shot in the arm,” according to a news release.

“Athens Street was closed for a short time. It was reopened later in the day following the conclusion of our investigation at the scene and we are grateful for the public’s understanding while that necessary work was undertaken”, said Police Chief Jay Parrish.

Parrish also said, “I am thankful for the teamwork by multiple agencies and the community, who came together to quickly solve this crime and apprehend the one responsible for the senseless death.”

Goss remains in the Hall County Jail on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

In addition to the Gainesville Police Department, several other worked on the case: the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the GBI, Hall County District Attorney’s Office, and the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force “and many others who provided support.”
