ARC wraps up study of proposed Forsyth Co. development

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) has wrapped up its Development of Regional Impact (DRI) study of a proposed mixed-use development called The Gathering in South Forsyth County.

Georgia News Network and the AJC report the DRI review gives local officials more information on how the development will affect traffic infrastructure, utility services, and the environment. With that process now complete with a “thumbs up” recommendation the next move is up to the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners.

The two-billion-dollar project envisions an 18,000-seat arena with hotels, shopping, dining, and residential space. Developers have hinted that they may seek a National Hockey League franchise for the arena, which would be bigger than Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, the home of the National Basketball Association’s Atlanta Hawks.
