Apalachee shooting: Schools reopening, more threat arrests/investigations

*Barrow County schools are reopening today for all schools except Apalachee High. Supt. Dallas LeDuff says he believes that students and faculty need to be together as soon as possible to move forward.  No date has been given for a reopening of Apalachee.
 
*A community recovery center is open in the Winder to help residents in the wake of the shooting. The Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) is offering mental health support 9:00-5:00 Monday-Friday. Some financial assistance will also be available, such as grants for funeral expenses and medical needs. GEMA’s director said it’s a situation that could take years to recover from.  

*A 12-year-old at Legacy Knoll Middle School in Jackson County was arrested Monday after School Resources Officers were notified of a threat. The student was removed from class and following “an immediate investigation” that resulted in the student being arrested.

*Monday night, an 8th grader at White County Middle School was arrested after the sheriff’s office was notified of a threat. The 13-year-old has been charged with two counts of Disrupting Operations at a Public School and was turned over to the state Department of Juvenile Justice.
