Another street racing arrest

For at least the fifth time since the first of the year, local authorities are reporting a case of street racing. The latest happened earlier this week and details were released Friday morning.

HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Edgar Avalos, 23, of Flowery Branch, was arrested Wednesday, May 22, in connection to a racing incident on Mundy Mill Road and Winder Highway.

Just after 8 a.m., a Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) lieutenant witnessed Avalos and another driver line up side by side and then pull away from the traffic light at the intersection of Mundy Mill Road and Atlanta Highway. The other driver stopped when he saw the patrol vehicle, but Avalos accelerated and sped away down Winder Highway.

Avalos proceeded down the highway, eventually stopping his vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping center in the 3900 block of Winder Highway. Officers estimated at one point during the incident, Avalos reached speeds in excess of 120 mph.

The suspect was arrested at the shopping center and charged with racing on highway or streets, speeding, reckless driving and tires-no metal tire contact on roadways, all misdemeanor offenses.

Avalos posted a bond of $1,690 and was released from the Hall County Jail Wednesday afternoon.”

The second person involved was not charged. Avalos was charged because he continued to speed down Winder Highway.
