White County voters may be asked to vote on another local option sales tax before the end of the year.
WRWH reports that the county commission has begun discussing just such a possibility. The additional tax, county officials say, would help lower or possibility eliminate property taxes in the county.
In November, voters approved House Bill 581, which allows counties to work with local municipalities to have placed on a ballot a referendum question calling for a one-cent tax called a FLOST or Floating Local Option Sales Tax.
Commission Chairman Travis Turner announced recently that county officials have been working with both Cleveland and Helen city officials to develop an Intergovernmental Agreement that would clear the way for a FLOST referendum this November.
