Daily high temperature records were set once again Friday at Atlanta, Athens, Macon, and Columbus. These temperatures broke or tied previous records from February 20, 1986 – 40 years ago. And it was the second straight day of record highs in those places.
Elsewhere, including Gainesville, Friday’s highs were well-above average. The high in Gainesville, recorded by the National Weather Service (NWS) station at the airport, was 76 which occurred between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. Thursday’s high was 77. These temps are about 20 degrees above normal.
But, as forecasters have been saying most of the week, the springlike weather is coming to an end with cold, windy conditions returning Sunday.
