Another data center; Discrimination investigation; Former school administrator headed to prison

*As more data center projects expand in Georgia, opposition by residents mounts. Many residents in the Augusta-Richmond County area are against a proposed data center for the Haynes Station community. And during this week’s commission meeting, some raised concerns about environmental impacts, visibility, and a lack of transparency from county leaders. County officials promise another meeting in May with residents and the developer to address additional issues with the proposal. There are reportedly over 60 planned data center projects in Georgia.

*An Atlanta-based auto parts company is under investigation for alleged discrimination. Court documents show that Genuine Parts Company failed to recruit and hire Black workers based on race. The documents don’t detail any specific instances of discrimination. Genuine is the parent company of NAPA Auto Parts.  

*Joshua Mason, a former high school vice principal in Houston County, was sentenced to life plus 30 years earlier this week after a jury convicted him of aggravated child molestation and incest. Mason resigned from his administrative position at Warner Robins High School a day before his arrest in 2021. Prosecutors say the victim was eight-years old when the abuse began and that it continued for nine-years.
