‘An act of pure evil’

Social media was alive with reaction to the New Year’s Eve massacre in New Orleans within hours of word of what had happened. And one of the two congressmen representing Hall County calls it “an act of pure evil.”

“The heinous terrorist attack on innocent civilians in New Orleans was an act of pure evil,” Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Jackson County) wrote on X. “Please join me in praying for the victims and their families. We must ensure everyone involved in this horrific crime is brought to swift justice.”

The other Hall County representative, Rich McCormick (R-Suwanee), was just as swift in his reaction, also posted on X. “My heart is with the victims and their families in the wake of the senseless…attack in New Orleans early this morning. We pray for our fellow Georgian injured and those who witnessed this tragedy firsthand.”

Rank-and-file Americans weighed-in as well, condemning the attack that killed at least 15 and injured 30. And agreeing with the decision to postpone the Sugar Bowl a day:

“Right thing to do.”

“They had no choice on this one.”

“It is the correct and safest thing to do.”

“I hate it but I understand.”

“Pray for New Orleans and our country.”

“Completely understand.”

University of Georgia President Jere Morehead announced Wednesday morning that a UGA student was among those critically injured. And in a late-day announcement authorities said the suspect in the case had links to the Peach State, as well. He was a graduate of Georgia State University in Atlanta.
