All day Fire Weather Watch

Things have gotten so dry in Georgia, that the weather service has done something it rarely does: issue a daylong Fire Weather Watch – and a day in advance, at that.

“Low relative humidity, gusty winds, dry fuels and vegetations will lead to dangerous fire weather conditions on Saturday thus a Fire Weather Watch has been issued,” says an advisory issued Friday morning for all day and into the night Saturday, meaning outdoor burning is strongly discouraged and care should be taken when visiting the outdoors.

This comes just a day after the U.S. Drought Monitor’s weekly update showed a continued worsening of drought conditions in the state and the U.S. Forest Service warned of the growing chances of grass and woods fires.

Saturday’s all-day watch begins at 8:00 and is good until 11:00 that evening.
