After the storm: Gville-based GDOT workers deployed to south Ga.

Over the last five days, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has been working around the clock to help remove debris off roadways, cut fallen trees, and reopen dark intersections that have traffic signal issues.

Recently, 33 crew members from the Gainesville GDOT office packed their gear and convoyed down south to Dublin to assist in cleanup efforts following Hurricane Helene. Meanwhile, GDOT says numerous roads and state routes continue to open up as each hour passes.

Regarding northeast, Georgia: There was one road closure in Habersham County late Monday on Tallulah Gorge Scenic loop in both directions due to trees down with power lines.

“It’s important to understand that these cleanup efforts will continue throughout the next few weeks as debris can fall at any moment in the roads,” Gainesville GDOT spokesman Nathan Johnston said. “Our crews will continue to monitor traffic and look for any fallen trees, standing water, and debris in the roadways. Please be sure to give our crews space when passing by on the roads.”
