Actual construction of the Express Lanes on Ga. 400 in Forsyth Co. about to begin

With the preliminary work out of the way, the four-year job of actually constructing Express Lanes along a 16-mile stretch of Ga. 400 including portions in Forsyth County – what GDOT calls the “heavy stuff” – is about to begin. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says that work is expected to begin in April.

According to GDOT, initial construction in Forsyth County will take place along SR 400 between McGinnis Ferry Road (future Exit 11B) and McFarland Parkway (Exit 12).

As construction begins and ramps up, GDOT says motorists expect to see increased activity in the corridor, including:

  • Construction equipment mobilizing
  • Work zones being established
  • Phased traffic shifts
  • Increased field activity as contractors begin heavy construction

This work is part of a larger 16-mile project corridor, with construction occurring in segments over time (see chart from GDOT below).
