HCSO NARRATIVE:
“HCSO Protective Transport Unit deputies took custody of Jimmy William Smith, 48, at the Dawson County Jail on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 4. The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office arrested Smith.
HCSO deputies responded to the initial call about the burglaries on Monday, Nov. 24, at a residence in the 3000 block of Manor Ridge. Investigators also responded and identified Smith as the suspect following their preliminary investigation.
According to the initial details, Smith burglarized the home on Friday, Nov. 21, and again on Saturday, Nov. 22. The owner was away at the time.
During the crimes, Smith took items including wiring, copper pipe, lighting fixtures and tools. He caused thousands of dollars damage to the house’s interior by removing existing wiring and pipe and ripping down fixtures. Investigators confiscated a small amount (less than 1 gram) of methamphetamine that Smith left in the house during one of the burglaries. Investigators charged him with the following:
- Two counts of first-degree burglary (felony)
- Second-degree criminal damage to property (felony)
- Possession of methamphetamine (felony)
Smith was booked into the Hall County Jail following his transport from Dawson County. He’s being held without bond.”
