Accident at tower site leaves 97.5 Glory FM off the air

An accident Wednesday at the 97.5 Glory FM tower site has left the station off the air but programming can still be heard on our website.

“The company that cuts the grass at our tower site had an accident this morning at the site,” Mike Wofford, President, Vision Communications of Georgia, Inc., and General Manager, WGTJ Radio said Wednesday afternoon. “They accidently cut a guy wire, and our tower came down.  It is on top of our tower building. Approximately the top third of the tower was broken.”

The accident happened at about 11:15 Wednesday morning.  No one was injured.

“We are off the air on the radio on 97.5 FM and 1330 AM for now,” Wofford said.  “I have a tower company coming out to the site on Thursday to see about erecting a new tower.  We may be off the radio for a couple of weeks up to a month.”

People can still hear the station, though, because it is continuing to broadcast on its digital platforms: online through the “listen live” link on the home page of the radio station’s website, wgtjradio.com; on the “tunein radio” app, “simple radio” app, and “radio garden” app; and on the Amazon Echo smart speaker by saying “play 97.5 GLORY FM”.

And the accident will not affect the posting of news stories to the website.
