The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has approved the “location and design” for a roundabout at Green and Academy streets in north Gainesville.
Plans for the project were announced several years ago and immediately drew criticism, much of it regarding the Rotary Tree, which is located there, and has for years been a focal point of the city’s annual Christmas on Green Street celebration and parade.
“The side roads including Forrest Lane, North Ave, Green Street Place, and Candler Street will require detour for five months during construction,” the GDOT announcement says. “Construction duration will be approximately 18 months.”
Drawings or maps or plats of the proposed project, as approved, are on file and are available for public inspection at the Georgia Department of Transportation: Terrance Cooper, Area Engineer District 1, Area 1 [email protected] 2594 Gillsville Highway.
“Any interested party may obtain a copy of the drawings or maps or plats or portions thereof by paying a nominal fee and requesting in writing to: Kimberly W. Nesbitt Office of Program Delivery Attn: Quondrekka Singleton, Project Manager [email protected] 600 West Peachtree St NW Atlanta, GA 30308 404-865-3492,” the announcement says. “Any written request or communication in reference to this project or notice SHOULD include the Project and P. I. Numbers as noted at the top of this notice.” (P. I. 0017392 HALL COUNTY)
