*Georgia Republicans are proposing big changes to the state’s voting system with a new bill. But not everyone is on board, like Betsy Shackelford, a former poll worker who told lawmakers Monday changing the state’s voting procedures will create chaos. If the bill passes, the May primaries would happen with current voting rules, but November’s general election would use a new voting system involving paper ballots. The bill would assign early voters to a specific polling place and require paper ballots. Its sponsor says Georgia’s voting system is currently compromised.
*Registered voters can request an absentee ballot. They have until May 7th to make the request. Early voting for the midterm primaries begins Monday, April 27th and will run through Friday, May 15th. Election is May 19th. That’s when Georgians will decide the nominees for Governor, Lt. Governor and a host of other offices.
*A southwest Georgia man, who was on federal supervised release for a prior drug felony when he was caught distributing methamphetamine twice in the region, was sentenced to 15 years in prison Monday. Frederick Dewayne Donald, 37, of Cairo, will be on supervised probation after that. (SOURCE: U.S DISTRICT COURT FOR MIDDLE GEORGIA)
