*Friends, family, current and former Gainesville school employees and officials were among those who gathered Thursday for the dedication of the Lucile Carter Memorial Media Center at Enota school. Carter was described as a dedicated member of the “Big Red Family,” serving as a member of the Board of Education for ten years, a founding member of the Gainesville High School Booster Club and many other contributions to the community at large focusing on women in leadership. As part of the ceremony, Doug Carter unveiled a picture of his mother which is on display in the library named in her memory.
*A Hall County Magistrate Court Judge who had announced plans to run next year for the Superior Court judgeship held by the retiring Kathlene Gosselin now says he will instead run for Hall County State Court judge. Brian Heck’s announcement comes two days after John Breakfield announced his plans to vacate that post and seek to replace Gosselin, who will step down at the end of next year.
