People opposed to an $80 million warehouse project near the Hall-Gwinnett County have launched a petition drive against the development. They have begun circulating a petition calling on Buford City Commissioners to reject the proposal, according to a Facebook posting.
“Trammel Crow Development plan(s) to build 6 warehouses at the cost of 80 million on prime lake property on Lake Lanier Parkway and Big Creek,” the posting reads. “Already approved by City of Buford (planning commission) at public hearing. We want to present this petition at the final Commision approval meeting. Currently beautiful trees and terrain to the lake front, this structure will be over 700,000 square feet of warehouses causing traffic issues on an already busy residential and small boat business area. Please sign and put a stop to this project, we already have too many empty warehouses in the area.”
The petition was started Feb. 17 and by 8:00 Thursday morning 630 people had signed it.
The matter is on the agenda for a city commission meeting on March 4.

Atlanta ended last year with 20.2 million square feet of warehouse space under construction, nearly a 55% decrease from the year prior. Locally, a Texas-based developer recently filed an application for an $80 million, 750,000 square foot warehouse project at the corner of Big Creek Road and Lanier Islands Parkway and several other projects in South Hall and North Gwinnett are on the drawing boards.
