STATE ROUNDUP 2/8/2024

*Another tornado is being confirmed in south Georgia. The National Weather Service says an EF-1 twister touched down in Thomas County last Sunday. The majority of damages included uprooted trees. Two injuries were reported after another tornado was reported in Valdosta on the same day.

*A project to build a large monkey facility in Bainbridge is moving forward despite lack of support from both the Bainbridge Decatur County Development Authority and nearby residents. The company Safer Human Medicine says they will be continuing construction of their 200-acre facility that will raise monkeys to be shipped away for medical research.

*Two more Georgians have been arrested in connection with the U.S. Capitol riot. Brothers Cepane Sarty of Marietta and Seth Sarty of Rockmart have been charged with felony offenses of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers during the attack. The men also face misdemeanor charges of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority.
