A Braselton man was arrested recently following a chase through South Hall involving police, sheriff’s deputies, and the state patrol. But not before, authorities say, he nearly wrecked several vehicles and had his wrecked by a patrol car. And even then, Hunter Lee Thompson, 26, didn’t give up. He fled on foot but was quickly captured.
GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:
“On February 5, 2024, at 1:02 PM, Troop B Communications notified Troopers of an active vehicle pursuit in Hall County.
The incident began when Oakwood Police Department Officers found a driver passed out behind the wheel of his truck. When the Officers attempted to make contact with the driver, the driver fled and initiated a pursuit. Oakwood Police Department Officers lost visual with the vehicle, a silver 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, near Bolden Road and SR 53 (Winder Highway). Troopers located the vehicle soon thereafter on Cavalry Church Road and the violator initiated another pursuit.
The pursuit traveled along several roadways while the violator drove in a reckless manner, nearly striking numerous motorists head-on. The pursuit continued to Pine Vale Road, where Trooper terminated the pursuit with a successful a PIT maneuver. During the PIT maneuver, the violator’s vehicle and Trooper patrol vehicle struck a mailbox. Once the violator’s vehicle came to a stop, the violator fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended by Troopers and several Hall County Deputies.
There were no injuries resulting from the incident. The Trooper’s patrol vehicle sustained minor damage due to the PIT maneuver.
It was later determined the violator struck a civilian’s vehicle in the time between being pursued by Oakwood Police Department and being located by Troopers.
The driver of the Silverado was determined to be driving under the influence.”
