A 55-year-old man has been charged with setting the fire on Athens Highway Saturday night that left one person with minor injuries.
HALL CO. FIRE RESCUE NEWS RELEASE:
“The Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an investigation over the past two days utilizing the State Fire Marshal’s Office Arson K9 to detect if accelerants were present at the scene.
As of Saturday night, February 3rd, Steven Barfield (55) was taken into custody and charged for arson in
the 1st degree. No other information about the case can be disclosed at this time.”
(EDITOR’S NOTE: Asked if Barfield is the person the person who was injured in the fire, a HCFR spokeswoman said “I can’t disclose any more information at this time, but I can update later on.)
EARLIER STORY (HCFR SATURDAY NIGHT NEWS RELEASE):
“At approximately 6:30 pm on the 2300 block of Athens Highway, HCFR responded to a fully involved small single story residence. First arriving units began a defensive attack on the bulk of the fire. The flames have been extinguished and crews located all remaining hot spots.
One patient was evaluated on scene for minor injuries, and transported emergent to NEGMC Gainesville.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and under investigation by the Hall County Fire Marshal’s
Office.”
