Woman arrested following midday chase in Flowery Branch area

A metro Atlanta woman was arrested after she waded into Lake Lanier at the end of a midday chase Thursday that involved Flowery Branch police officers and Hall County sheriff’s deputies.

FLOWERY BRANCH POLICE DEPT. NEWS RELEASE:

“On 02/01/2024 at approximately 12:28 PM, Flowery Branch Police Officers were dispatched to Tree Park Apartments regarding a female (Starlita Moore, 40, of Hampton Georgia) banging on an apartment door while holding a firearm and yelling.

While responding to the location, Officers received further information indicating the subject had used her vehicle to ram a security gate at Tree Park Apartments as well as another vehicle in the complex before fleeing the scene. Dispatch advised responding officers the female was possibly suicidal and had also rammed a security gate at Old Federal Park prior to the call at Tree Park Apartments. 

With assistance from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Flowery Branch Police Officers immediately commenced a search of the area.

A Deputy with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office spotted the suspect’s vehicle in the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but she refused to stop. Recognizing the immediate danger this subject presented to herself and the public, Flowery Branch Police Officer’s assisted the Hall County Sheriff’s Office with a pursuit of the fleeing vehicle.

As the subject was being pursued, she returned to Old Federal Park and again rammed through a closed security gate. Once in the park, the subject traveled to the boat ramp area and stopped her vehicle. The subject then exited the vehicle and entered the lake on foot before being detained. The subject’s firearm was recovered from the front seat of her vehicle. The motivation as to why Moore committed these acts is still under investigation. 

Flowery Branch Officers have charged Moore with the following offenses: 

Two Counts of Criminal Damage to Property 

Two Counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident”
