Another round of bitter cold headed our way

More bitterly cold weather is headed our way but only after a day or two moderating temperatures and a round of rain.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says lows tonight in the Gainesville area will dip into the teens again but winds will be less brisk making wind chills a little more tolerable. Showers will move through Thursday night and then with Friday and comes a return to those low readings in the teens and 20s which will be with us through the weekend.

The low in Gainesville this morning was 13 which occurred around 7:00, according to NWS data collected at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport. By 1:00 p.m. the temperature had reached the freezing mark, but the wind chill was 24. Wind chills in the single digits were common overnight, starting at 8:00. However, no below zero readings were recorded.
