The Tuscaloosa News puts it this way: “Nick Saban is retiring. The four words Alabama football fans have never wanted to hear ― and every other college football supporter has badly sought for years ― are real.”
Numerous news outlets are reporting that Saban informed the team today that he is stepping down after 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide.
He is ending his career with seven national titles, 11 SEC titles, and an overall record of 201-29 with the Alabama program. His overall college record is 292-71-1. This season his team beat number one Georgia for a shot at another national championship but came up short with a loss to Michigan which went on to capture the crown last night with a win over the Washington Huskies.
