Wyatt Dodgens pitched 6 strong innings for the win, and Kyle Roper pitched the final 3 innings to complete the win for Gainesville. The Gol’Diggers won their 21st game of the season, and can wrap up the series with a win in Columbus Saturday night. If the Gol’Diggers win Saturday, they will meet the winner of the Columbus Chatt-a-hoots and Atlanta Blues series for the Sun Belt League championship. The Chatt-a-hoots won game 1 of their series Friday night, 7-0. If the Monsters win Saturday’s game, then the teams will play the third and deciding game at Ivey-Watson Field, Monday, July 31, at 6:35 PM.
If Gainesville and Columbus win their games Saturday, then the Sun Belt League championship series will begin Monday night in Columbus. The Gol’Diggers would host game 2 of the best-of-3 series at home Wednesday night.
