Hall jail inmate facing new charges

An Athens man faces drug trafficking and theft charges following an incident late last week in Gainesville.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:

“Jordan Thomas Grissom, 31, was initially charged on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, with theft by receiving stolen property and obstruction after he ran from officers during a traffic investigation. Just before 10:45 p.m., two deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) stopped a Dodge pickup truck for a stolen tag as it turned onto Sandridge Court off Thompson Bridge Road. The driver of the truck, later identified as Grissom, traveled through the neighborhood to a private driveway on Marbleridge Drive where deputies were able to speak with him about the stolen tag. Grissom claimed he had borrowed the vehicle from a friend, but verification of the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) indicated the vehicle had been stolen out of Jackson County.

Deputies informed Mr. Grissom he was being arrested and ordered him to remove a backpack he was carrying. At that time, the suspect ran from the deputies, traveling through several back yards of the condominium complex. Deputies were able to catch up with Grissom when he stumbled and fell.

A search of the backpack uncovered a quantity of a crystalline substance in a resealable bag, which was turned over to drug investigators with HCSO’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU). The substance was determined to be 60 grams of methamphetamine (approximate street value of $4,500). The warrant for the drug trafficking charge was served Tuesday, Nov. 28, while Grissom was in custody at the Hall County Jail.

Grissom remains in jail on the following charges:

·         Felony theft by receiving (2 counts)

·         Misdemeanor obstruction

·         Felony methamphetamine trafficking”
