If you are one who’s used to getting your Christmas tree from one of the National Forests in Georgia, you know that you’ve needed to go to your local Forest Service Ranger Station or other participating vendors to get a permit. But now, U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Janelle Smith says you can get one online at recreation.gov and get your permit.
Smith says permit holders are allowed to cut trees only in certain cutting areas on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests where taking down a tree will benefit the forest. She says all of that information will be available at your local Forest Service Office and online when you get your permit. Bring your own saw and put the permit on the dashboard of your car.
Smith adds the push for online permitting started more than a decade ago.
