A Gainesville City School System (GCSS) spokeswoman issued a statement Tuesday afternoon, 24 hours after a Gainesville High School student was injured in a baseball accident on campus Monday.
Joy Griffin confirmed that the student, a player for the school’s baseball team whose name has not been released, was critically injured but “is in stable condition at this time. The entire Gainesville community is devastated by the news. School administrators, the team and coaches are together and in contact with the family.”
Griffin added this is “all we can say at this time.” Reports Monday indicated that the incident occurred at a batting cage.
