D.A. resigns

Six months after winning his primary race and two days after he was “officially” re-elected, Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh has resigned.

Darragh, who has been the chief Superior Court prosecutor for not only Hall but Dawson County as well for about 20 years, has been on medical leave for several months. The two counties make up the Northeastern Judicial Circuit.

In his letter of resignation to the governor, he said his resignation is effective immediately.

It will now be up to the governor to appoint a successor. But state law does not say how long the governor has before that must be done.
