Drought worsens; lake level moves lower

Georgia’s drought gained ground over the past week, with a decrease in the amount of the state that is drought-free and worsening conditions in Hall and other counties.

The only parts of the state considered drought-free are south and southeast of a line from Augusta to Albany to Columbus.

Hall County is about evenly split among abnormally, moderately and severely dry conditions with the worst of the drought confined that that part that borders Lumpkin, Dawson and Forsyth counties.

Lake Lanier, meanwhile, lost another half-a-foot since last Thursday and its level continues to drop. It’s now 1062.9 approaching eight feet below normal for this time of year.
