HCSO: His overstay at traffic light does not end well for him

A Hall County sheriff’s deputy arrested Miguel Angel Lomas-Vital, 39, early Sunday morning for traffic offenses and possession of falsified identification documents after another motorist reported some unusual activity on his part.

Deputies responded to a location on Mountain View Road around 6:20 to assist Oakwood Police with an impaired driver, later identified as Lomas-Vital.

The investigation at the scene determined a witness had seen Lomas-Vital’s vehicle stopped in the eastbound lane of Mundy Mill Road at Old Flowery Branch Road for an extended time, noting that the vehicle had not moved during several cycles of the traffic light.

The witness called 911 and reported seeing the driver turn right on Old Flowery Branch Road traveling at a high rate of speed toward Mountain View Road. An Oakwood PD officer made contact with the vehicle and Lomas-Vital in the 3300 block of Mountain View Road.

The HCSO deputy conducted field sobriety tests on Lomas-Vital after detecting an odor of alcohol coming from him. The deputy determined Lomas-Vital was too impaired to be driving and placed him under arrest for DUI.

During a subsequent search, the deputy located a baggie containing a Georgia ID card and a Social Security card with a name other than Lomas-Vital’s. The deputy was able to make contact with the person whose name was on the documents (a Texas resident) and determined the person had had trouble with fraud ever since his identity was stolen several years ago.

Lomas-Vital, who has a Gainesville address, remains in custody at the Hall County Jail on an immigration hold. He faces charges of possession of false identification documents (two counts), DUI, obstruction of an intersection and failure to maintain lane.
