HCSO: FBHS student found with loaded gun on campus

A student at Flowery Branch High School (FBHS) was arrested Friday after authorities say they found a loaded gun in his book bag.

Around 11:45, school officials received information that a student had a weapon in a book bag on campus, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said.

“School officials immediately notified the school resource officer (SRO). Together, school officials and the SRO located the student, a 16-year-old boy, in a classroom, removed the student and his belongings, and escorted him to the office. They searched his book bag and located the firearm (a pistol) inside.”

The student has been charged as a juvenile with carrying a weapon within a school safety zone. He was released to juvenile authorities.

“The preliminary investigation determined the student did not intend to harm others or himself,” Williams added.
