Downtown gearing up for Jingle Mingle

If you’ve been in any of the stores around town lately, you’ve probably noticed that the Halloween decorations in many of them are competing for attention with Christmas offerings. Now, with scarecrows still on the square, a Jingle Mingle chicken is about to invade downtown.

Henry Ward Way at Broad St. will be closed Wednesday 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. for the installation and removal of a crane. That crane, city spokeswoman Christina Santee says, is needed to place a “Jingle Mingle Chicken” atop the city’s administration building.

This “bird” is not to be confused with the one that has sat for years during the holiday season atop a building on the square across from the Hunt Tower. This one was first used by the city last year, Santee noted.

Jingle Mingle is the unofficial, annual kickoff of the holiday season downtown each November.
