HCSO: Another deputy fired, one more resigns

Two more deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office are no longer employed by the agency following recent Internal Affairs (IA) investigations. They join the growing list of those who have resigned, been fired, or otherwise left in recent weeks for various reasons, mostly related to misuse of Flock license plat readers.

Sean McCusker was dismissed from his position as major of the Enforcement Bureau, which encompasses the Uniform Patrol and Operations divisions, after an investigation uncovered employment practices that were inconsistent with agency policy. McCusker had been an employee of the sheriff’s office for 31 years.

Investigators launched their probe on Aug. 17. They determined McCusker received simultaneous compensation, commonly known as “double dipping,” from secondary jobs while receiving his sheriff’s office pay during the same hours. In addition, they found that McCusker failed to work typically recognized business hours for five straight weeks.

On Wednesday, Michael Mount resigned in lieu of termination as captain of the Uniform Patrol Division. Mount had been an employee of the sheriff’s office for 17 years.

An investigation, also launched on Aug. 17, determined Mount had violated numerous agency policies related to off-duty job assignments. Additionally, the investigation found that Mount had abused his authority as captain of the division by creating a hostile work environment.

Sheriff Gerald Couch has transferred Major Jason Smith from the Jail Bureau to assume the position of major of the agency’s Enforcement Bureau. Chris Dale has been promoted from captain to major in the Jail Bureau, and Lt. Sean Bradburn has been promoted to captain of the Uniform Patrol Division.
