Longtime Gville school crossing guard dies

Jacob Wilmont, Sr. was 91.

His obituary describes him as a “jack-of-all-trades” – a cab driver, director of the Butler Community Center, small business owner – during his lifetime. Wilmont was also a retired Gainesville Parks & Recreation employee. He worked with that agency for 30 years.

But he was probably best known as the school crossing guard at Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy for more than 40 years – something for which he received special recognition in 2016 when the crosswalk in front of the school was named in his honor. A sign designating it as such was erected at the site.
