The GBI says that New York murder suspect who was arrested in a Buford subdivision Thursday was finally caught after being wounded during a running gun battle with authorities.
According to a statement released by the GBI Friday, about 6:10 a.m., U.S. Marshals and Gwinnett sheriff’s deputies executed an arrest warrant at a house in the 1900 block of Binnies Way in attempt to arrest Kean Wiggins, 35, on an out-of-state arrest warrant for murder.
During that operation, Wiggins fled the house and shot at deputies and to be located later that morning near Freeman’s Mill Elementary School in Lawrenceville, walking down the road with a gun in his hand. As officers approached Wiggins and gave him verbal commands, he immediately began shooting at their vehicles.
Officers returned fire and Wiggins ran into an adjacent neighborhood. Officers pursued Wiggins, and the officers and Wiggins exchanged more gunfire before Wiggins was shot and taken into custody.
Wiggins was taken to an area hospital where he is currently in stable condition.
