*The upcoming season opener for the Georgia Bulldogs could be the hottest ever recorded. Kickoff is Saturday at 3:00 in Athens and forecasters say highs will be in the upper 90s with the heat index near 105 degrees — that’s considered dangerous heat. Players and fans are expected to be on the field during the hottest time of the day. The stadium itself can create a heat dome that could make conditions extremely dangerous. Officials are advising fans to hydrate well before arriving, take shelter when possible, and watch for warning signs of heat exhaustion. Cooling and first-aid stations will be available inside the stadium.
*A small south Georgia county is drawing federal money at nearly four times the national per-person average. According to new analysis from financial hub SmartAsset, Chattahoochee County led Georgia with over $71,000 per resident over 18 months. By comparison, the national average comes out to just over $18,000 per person. Analysts tie Chattahoochee’s massive total to military training and defense operations across Fort Benning, which covers most of the county.
*State Senator John Albers of Albany says Georgia will not follow other states in banning Flock camera technology. He tells WALB-TV Georgians would be dealt a great disservice if Flock cameras were to disappear. He says Flock found more than 10,000 missing people last year, and several crime cases were solved thanks to the technology.
*A Newnan woman and her two teenage daughters are facing charges in a golf club attack. Officers say the woman handed off the golf club to be used during a fight with other juveniles. A 14-year-old girl is now being treated for serious injuries in an Atlanta hospital. The woman, her 16-year-old daughter and 15-year-old daughter were all arrested for aggravated assault.
