Because of what church officials say is a growing enrollment, Free Chapel plans to expand its college program which is now located in Gainesville into a permanent home at the ministry’s Braselton campus. Plans call for more than 40,000 square feet to be remodeled.
The campus, located at 2001 Cherry Drive, received a “do approve” recommendation for zoning approval from the Braselton Planning Commission and now goes to the city council. The zoning designation will shift from manufacturing‑distribution to office‑institutional to allow the college to operate there.
Church officials said the move is driven by recent enrollment increases, including a 30% increase in overall student numbers and a 60% jump in online enrollment. The renovated facility will include dedicated classrooms, gathering areas and administrative offices for students and faculty.
The college is expected to move into the remodeled space later this year assuming the plan gains the approval of the Braselton City Council. The matter is on the agenda for a council meeting next week.
