*A 43-year-old Atlanta woman sues a health care company over a misdiagnosis that she had cancer. The suit target several branches of Kaiser Permanente and laboratory staff after a tissue sample mix-up led to Cassandra Barksdale undergoing an unnecessary hysterectomy. Attorney Dr. Roderick Edmond said that Barksdale experienced months of anxiety after being diagnosed with aggressive endometrial uterine cancer, only to later it was a mistake.
*A homeless man’s body was recently found in a dumpster in Augusta and police say it was tossed there by two teens who murdered him. 17-year-old Lamar Rodriguez and 19-year-old Keshaun Walters have been charged with the man’s death.
*Federal budget cuts are threatening to take away free school lunches from more than one million Georgia children. Carolyn Vega with No Kid Hungry tells Atlanta News First that while some districts have locked in free meals for all students through 2028, it’s still a statewide crisis we will see more of once those agreements expire. Georgia families not qualifying for assistance face an estimated median yearly cost of over $1,100 per child for school lunches, according to the Center for American Progress.
