Tommy Jonathan Payne has now been charged with murder in connection with the assault of 62-year-old Carolyn Louise Garrett last week in west Gainesville.
Garrett has died as a result of the injuries she sustained during the July 21 attack, Gainesville Police said in a social media post today (Thursday). Police have described both Garett and Payne as homeless.
The murder charge, the post says, is in addition to the charges previously filed.
The attack, police have said, occurred in the overnight hours at the Ay Mama Por Dios Sports Bar & Restaurant located on Browns Bridge Road between Pizza Hut and Longhorn Steak House.
