UPDATE: Victim of west Gville incident remains in critical condition

UPDATE #1. 9:45 A.M. WEDNESDAY:

The woman who was injured when she was attacked overnight Monday in west Gainesville remained in critical condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville Wednesday morning, a police spokesman said. And he issued this statement about the incident:

“Police have charged Tommy Jonathan Payne, 37-years of age, homeless, in connection to the overnight assault on a 62 year-old homeless female at 1701 Browns Bridge Road. Payne allegedly struck the female in the head with a blunt object, causing life-threatening injuries. The victim remains hospitalized in critical care.

Payne is charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and loitering and prowling. The investigation is active and ongoing. The GBI and Hall County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the case.”

He was being held without bond at last check.

ORIGINAL STORY. POSTED TUESDAY NIGHT:

97.5 Glory FM has confirmed that a woman was critically injured overnight at a west Gainesville restaurant and that her alleged assailant is in custody.

Details are sketchy, but the suspect, Tommy Jonathan Payne, 37, was still in jail early Tuesday evening. He was being held without bond on two of the three charges facing him – aggravated assault and aggravated battery. Bond was set at $1,300 on a prowling or loitering charge.

The incident happened at the Ay Mama Por Dios Sports Bar & Restaurant located on Browns Bridge Road between Pizza Hut and Longhorn Steak House.
