*Bridge Builder Communities is constructing 25 tiny houses in Augusta for people ages 18-24 who have aged out of foster care. The 320-square-foot homes will also be fully stocked with bedding, cooking utensils, and dishes. People staying in them will also have access to programs to help them train for jobs and develop life skills. They are expected to be completed by this fall.
*The CDC is investigating a mysterious diarrhea outbreak, unrelated to international travel, that’s turned up in Georgia, North Carolina and 16 other states. It has received 145 reports of a parasite linked to contaminated food or water.
*Port Wentworth is starting to enforce a semi-truck ban on one of its highways. Trucks are banned on Coastal Highway from Grange Road to Bonnybridge, which covers roughly two miles. The city manager says officers gave out 500 warnings in June, before full enforcement began. City officials made the change in order to “improve safety and create a more pedestrian-friendly area.”
*A youngster is being treated for injuries suffered in a Liberty County shark bite. Coast Guard officials responded to Sunbury Boat Ramp near Ossabaw Island Wednesday afternoon. One boater told WTOC the victim was bitten on the leg while fishing with several others. The child is being cared for at a Savannah hospital, but the extent of the injuries is unknown.
*Team USA advances to the FIFA Round of 16 defeating Bosnia-Herzogovina 2-0 last night. Team USA will play Belgium next. That match is scheduled for Monday.
